How to Choose the Best Moving Company: 8 Things to Check

 In Moving Services

In short: the best moving company is not always the one with the lowest hourly rate. What matters is a clear quote, no hidden costs, real reviews and a team that knows how to lift large furniture safely. Here are 8 things to check before you order.

1. Work out what you actually need

Are you moving an apartment, a house or an office? Do you need only transport, or also movers, packing, dismantling and assembling furniture or removing old furniture? The more precisely you describe your needs, the more accurate the quote.

2. Ask for a written quote

A good moving company asks for the addresses, floors, whether there is a lift and a list of items or photos. The quote should state the hourly rate, how many movers and which vehicle, the minimum order and the estimated time.

3. Compare the total price, not just the hourly rate

A lower hourly rate does not mean a cheaper move. If one company charges 84 €/h and does the job in 3 hours while another charges 68 €/h but needs 5 hours, the first one is cheaper. Ask how big the vehicle is and how many people are coming.

4. Look for hidden costs

  • Is travel time added, and in which areas?
  • Is packing material included?
  • How are heavy items priced – a piano, a safe, items over 80 kg?
  • Is the price higher at the weekend?

5. Read real reviews

Look at Google reviews: how many there are, how recent they are and how the company responds to criticism. Uksest Ukseni has 101 reviews on Google (October 2026) – you can read them on our reviews page.

6. Ask how your belongings are protected

How are furniture and fragile items packed? Do the movers have straps, blankets and protective material? Who is responsible if something happens? Clear answers show that the company does this work every day.

7. Check the company details

A reliable company has public details: registry code, address and phone number. If the company also transports waste, it must have a waste permit – ours is L.JÄ/333085.

8. Read the terms before the move

Check how time is counted, when an order can be changed or cancelled and how payment works. Our terms are on the terms page.

Frequently asked questions

How do I find the best moving company in Tallinn?

Ask for several written quotes, compare the total price and hidden costs, read Google reviews and check the company details and terms.

Is the cheapest moving company the best value?

Not always. A company with a lower hourly rate may need more time or a smaller vehicle, so the total price ends up higher.

What information does a moving company need for a quote?

Both addresses, floors, lift information, the preferred date and a list of items or photos.

Should a moving company protect my belongings?

Yes. Ask how furniture and fragile items are packed and what protective material the movers use.

Need help with your move?

Send the addresses and a list of items – we will tell you how many movers and which vehicle you need.
