Fridge and Washing Machine Transport: How to Move Them Safely

 In Moving Services

In short: a fridge is best transported upright, and a washing machine needs its transport bolts fitted. We bring appliances from the shop or your old home straight into the room and up to the floor – not just to the door. Two workers lift items up to 80 kg.

Fridge transport

  • The day before: empty and defrost the fridge, dry it and leave the door open.
  • Transport: a fridge should be transported upright. If it has to lie down, put it on its side, not on its back.
  • After transport: let the fridge stand before switching it on, so the oil settles in the compressor. The exact time is in the manufacturer’s manual – if the fridge was lying down, the waiting time is longer.
  • Doors: secure the doors with tape or a strap so they do not open during transport.

Washing machine transport

  • Drain the water and clean the filter.
  • Fit the transport bolts – they hold the drum in place. Without them the shock absorbers and bearings can be damaged during transport.
  • Secure the hoses and cable to the machine.
  • At the new place remove the bolts before the first wash.

Other appliances

A dishwasher, cooker and dryer also have to be emptied and their cables secured. TV and monitor screens are packed in bubble wrap or the original box and transported upright.

Why not just a courier

Many shops and courier companies bring a fridge or washing machine only to the stairwell door, often within a time window of several hours. We agree on the time with you, pick up the item from the shop, warehouse or your old home and bring it into the room where you want it. If needed, we take the old machine away – electronics are accepted at the waste station free of charge.
