In short: piano moving in Tallinn costs from 150 € for an upright piano and from 690 € for a grand piano, plus a floor fee. A piano must not be tilted or carried like ordinary furniture – it takes straps, a stair-climbing robot and an experienced team. Below we explain how piano moving works and what the price depends on.

Why moving a piano is a special lift

An upright piano usually weighs 150–300 kg, a grand piano even more. The weight is not evenly distributed, and the case, keyboard and action are delicate. Tilting it the wrong way or knocking it against a step can damage the instrument as well as the stairs and walls. That is why we treat piano moving as a special lift: we protect the case, use lifting straps and, if needed, a stair-climbing robot.

How piano moving works

  1. Send photos and details – type of instrument, dimensions, both addresses, floors, lift and the width of the stairs and doors.

  2. We agree on the price – if necessary, we inspect the site first.

  3. We pack and protect – the case, keyboard lid and legs are covered; the legs and pedal lyre of a grand piano are removed.

  4. We lift and transport – on the stairs we use straps or a stair-climbing robot, in the vehicle the piano is secured properly.

  5. We install – we bring the piano to the desired spot and put the grand piano back on its legs.

After the move we recommend having the piano tuned a few weeks later, once it has adjusted to the temperature and humidity of the new room.

Our work: the “Hans Orntlich” upright and an Estonia concert grand

“The piano is called ‘Hans Orntlich’ – an old upright with a German-era frame and action, of which only a few were made in Estonia, even before the Tallinn Piano Factory was founded. So it is a heavy instrument, not a light one like the Soviet-era pianos.”

On the same day we also moved an Estonia concert grand. On the stairs we used a Pianopan stair-climbing robot, which moves a heavy instrument smoothly step by step – without damaging the piano, the stairs or the walls. Thank you for the cooperation to Vitali Vorinko, Heiki Parts and the Nõmme District Government.
